Application/ Program Design
Through investigating three diverse post-secondary institutions’ student retention programs, a program has been designed that incorporates successful key components from each program. The context of the program will emphasize tracking the full-time student in a degree program over time (6yrs/4yr college, 3yrs/2yr college) to determine whether the student has completed the program. Using the administrative management theory, three primary theoretical components are addressed. They are as follows: clear lines of authority, organizing by function, and organization between formal structure and central purpose. The goal of this program is to retain students at either a four or two year institution where they can successfully complete their degree program. In addition, a second goal is to design a program that is applicable to all post-secondary institutions. Lastly, the program design is structured for higher education administrators to effectively manage their student retention programs.
